2024 - A Year of Intentional Living and Creative Milestones
As I sit down to reflect on 2024, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for the gift I gave myself this year: time.
In May, I stepped away for a sabbatical—a chance to breathe deeply, reflect, and rediscover what truly fills my cup. That pause taught me something invaluable: it’s okay to slow down, to let go of the rush, and to focus on what feels meaningful.
This holiday season, that mindset made all the difference. I approached December with calm and intention, embracing the joy of family traditions and the beauty of letting things unfold naturally (even if that meant a new batch of ornaments didn’t make their debut).
Instead of overloading my schedule, I savored the moments that matter most. We spent Thanksgiving in San Francisco with our daughter and her fiancé, sharing meals, laughter, and memories. I revived an old family tradition—inviting my college son and his friends to a lively gingerbread house decorating night, where the candy may have gone into their mouths as much as onto the houses.
In the weeks that followed, we took a quick trip to Charleston for some last-minute shopping, decorated cookies, wrapped gifts with care (and only a touch of last-minute hustle), and soaked in the joy of having all my children under one roof.
It wasn’t perfect—but it was perfectly ours.
But beyond the holiday season, 2024 was full of incredible milestones and experiences that I will forever treasure:
Sense of Home: I exhibited in my first solo show at Centre Stage in Greenville, SC, thanks to the Metropolitan Arts Council. This collection, “Sense of Home,” included 17 new works, featuring my largest paintings to date at 36” x 48”.
Spring Shows: I participated in two vibrant spring art shows, ArtRoomGVL and The Scouted Studio.
New Offerings: I added Frame TV digital downloads to my shop and launched 4 new CANVAS prints.
A Month in Napa: My May sabbatical took me to the breathtaking region of Napa Valley, where I painted, reflected, and embraced creative freedom.
A Fear Conquered (Sort of): For my birthday, I took my first hot air balloon ride with my daughter—an experience equal parts exhilarating and terrifying!
Artistic Connections: I joined an incredible art coaching group that has given me not only insight but also a community of supportive artist friends.
Branding Evolution: I collaborated with my daughter to create new branding that feels like a true reflection of me and my artistic journey.
Fall Shows: I participated in three fall in-person shows, including MAC Open Studios for the third year.
Giving Back: Together, we raised over $1,500 for Hurricane Relief in Western NC, with $1,300 going directly to rebuilding efforts for Pretty Place Chapel at Camp Greenville with the help of my “Pretty Place” painting
Gratitude for My Collectors: In 2024, I sold 72 pieces of original artwork—a number that still takes my breath away. Thank you to my amazing collectors for inviting my work into your homes and hearts.
This year was about more than just accomplishments—it was about growth, connection, and finding joy in the journey. As we step into 2025, I hope you, too, can reflect on the moments that filled your cup and created beauty in your life.
Warmly,
Mel
